SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) version 20 became available in March. It can run side by side with previous versions of SSMS, but if you’ve installed a preview version of 20, you’ll need to uninstall it before installing the release version.
One change is that you’re not forced to install Azure Data Studio along with SSMS.
Here’s the new connection screen:

The main change is the addition of the Connection Security section. Click on the Options button if you don’t see all of the connection options. The Encryption options are Mandatory (The default), Strict, and Optional. If you don’t have certificates set up for you SQL Server instance, you can choose Optional to connect. The Strict mode is available for SQL Server 2022 or for Azure SQL. The Strict option uses TLS 1.3 and TDS (Tabular Data Stream) 8.0, as well as disabling the ‘Trust Server Certificate’ option on the connection screen.
